【領導人選舉的辯論會】 本年度 IRC 上的[4]選舉[5]辯論會於03月07日舉行，並有
約 100 位朋友[6]參與。在各候選人陳述了他們的主張後，會議在幽默的氣氛中結束。
看來如果只有候選人能投票，而且不能投給自己的話，Martin Michlmayr 八成會當選。

the effects. Moshe Zadka stated that he would like his term (if elected)
to be remembered for establishing world-peace, although he thinks that

【Debian 於 OpenOffice.org Conference】 Chris Hall、Rene Engelhard 和
Jan-Hendrik Palic 將[8]代表 Debian 參加在03月20日及21日於德國漢堡大學舉行的
[9]OpenOffice.org Conference。Chris 將於會中介紹製作 OpenOffice.org Debian
套件的程序，包含用來編製 OpenOffice.org 及將它整合進作業系統的方式。他也會
介紹製作套件時的一些重要的注意事項、小技巧、以及一些用得到旳工具和資源。

【Debian 中的字型管理】 Colin Walters [10]談到用來安裝字型的 Debian
字型管理程式（Debian Font Manager，defoma），以及和它有相同功能，但卻提供了
提供了應用程式更一般性的方式尋找及使用字型，並且已經有數個應用程式在使用的
fontconfig。Emile van Bergen [11]提出一個較為折衷的方式，一方面保留
defoma，另一方面則漸漸地將程式轉移到 fontconfig 上。

【Debian-Installer GTK 前端程式現況】 Sebastian Ley 發了一封[12]信說明
debian-installer GTK 前端程式（frontend）的現況。開發人員已經完成將必要
的函式庫製作成 udeb 的工作，不過這個程式現在還處於一個不穩定的階段。因此
，還有很多除錯的工作待完成，同時還必須構思並實作將這個 GTK 前端程式整合
進來的方式。這個[13]畫面看起來也許並不是那麼漂亮，不過它可以讓您對現在的

【提供大家以 mbox 的形式讀取通信論壇文件集】 Josip Rodin
[14]詢問是否應該讓大家在網頁上以 mbox 的形式讀取論壇文件集。這麼做會讓垃
圾郵件程式取得更多的資訊，有好處也有壞處：好處是因為 message-ID 的干擾，
讓該程式資料庫中真正有用的帳號比例會降低，壞處是這樣可能會讓發信人
收到許多的垃圾郵件。Santiago Vila [15]覺得這並不是個好主意，並且建議參考
Geocrawler 或 Sourceforge 的做法。Osamu Aoki（青木
修）則[16]認為這要看我們提供 mbox 的方式，他建議最好能將檔案用 gzip
壓縮過。

【將 PAM 政策標準化】 Sebastian Rittau [17]提到我們沒有一個標準的 PAM
政策（policy）。他認為大部份套件使用 PAM 做身份驗證（authentication）旳方式
是錯誤的。這些套件會在 /etc/pam.d/ 下放一個自己的設定檔，而這些設定檔其實內
容都相差不多。Steve Langasek [18]提供一個加入 include 機制的範本給大家參考。

【是否符合 LSB 1.3？】 Gerhard Tonn 在 S/390 平台的 woody 上[19]執行最新的
LSB [20]驗證程式。他依照 Anthony Towns [21]所述使用修改過的 glibc 和
pax。測試結果相當不錯，不過在國際化（internationalization）的部份有約 50
項不合規範。這個部份是在 LSB 從 1.3 版起納入的。會有如此結果的主要原因是相
關的[22]修正程式並沒有完全被納入 woody 中。這個問題在 sid 同樣存在。

【Woody 中的 Potato 套件】 Johann Glaser [23]質疑為什麼 woody（以及 sarge
和 sid）中有許多套件檔都是連結到 potato
的套件檔。會這麼問的起因是他的映射站（mirror）中並沒有包含
potato。由於一些套件從 potato 發行到現在都沒有更新過，因此它們沒被納入
pool 機制中。這個情形會在 potato 被正式從檔案庫中移除時獲得解決。

【PHPNuke 是自由軟體嗎？】 John Goerzen [24]懷疑， PHPNuke
授權證中額外加入旳一段重要宣告（important
notice）禁止他人對其程式進行修改及衍生開發。作者希望在所有由 PHPNuke
處理過的網頁下方，都要加上他的版權宣告。Branden Robinson

【Debian 中的 IPv6 概況】 Fabio Massimo Di Nitto
[26]發表他們製作的一個[27]網頁，裡面放的是 Debian 套件在支援 IPv6
方面的資訊。他們用數種不同的方式將套件分類後，他們決定製作這樣旳網頁。網頁

【無障礙環境的開發進展】 Mario Lang [29]宣佈最近成立了
[30]debian-accessibility 通信論壇。這個論壇將供 Debian
作業系統中的無障礙環境的相關議題討論之用，包含聽障、視障、或一些身體不方便
（例如因為某些原因而影響他使用鍵盤的能力）的朋友可能會到的所有問題。

【LPPL 屬於自由軟體授權方式嗎？】 Martin Pitt 正在製作 latex-ucs
套件，但是該軟體使用 [31]LaTex Project Public
License（LPPL）並附加一些作者自訂的要求，他[32]懷疑這樣的授權方式是否不符合
[33]Debian Free Software Guidlines 的要求。Branden Robinson

【Debian 在 CeBIT 的報導】 Alexander Schmehl 寫了一篇關於 Debian 在 CeBIT
中展出的[35]報導。本年度的展出攤位是由 [36]LinuxLand
所贊助的。展出相當地成功，並且吸引了很多人駐足參觀。攤位的負責人 Alexander
和 ichael 'grisu' Bramer 都相當高興能有機會在 CeBIT 中展示 Debian
系統。明天（星期三）是 CeBIT 的最後一天，有興趣的朋友還是可以到六館（hall
6）的 A52 / 182 攤位逛逛。
