【挽救 /var】 [3]LinuxWorld.com 的 Nicholas Petreley 因為不小心備份了
[4]錯的分割區（partition），導致他的 Debian 系統 /var 目錄不見了。非常
重要的套件資訊全都放在 /var/lib/dpkg 下面，尤其是在 /var/lib/dpkg/status
之中。Nicholas 說明了在挽救不小心刪掉的 /var/lib/dpkg 過程中所得到的

【Debian 在人類出現之前就存在了？】 Tomas Pospisek [6]說 [7]Debian 的漩
渦標誌（Debian Swirl）可以清楚地在 NASA 哈柏望遠鏡拍的一張[8]照片中看到

【Debian 的介紹】 Wolfgang Borgert 在[10]找一份可以用來簡介 dpkg、apt-get
和 debconf 的投影片。Javier Fern嫕dez-Sanguino Pe鎙 [11]打算在 [12]Debian
Documentation Project 中加上一個『介紹』的章節，並且為此他已經製作了[13]一

【強制透過 Debconf 和使用者互動？】 Adrian Bunk [16]建議修改 Debian 規章，
要求所有套件安裝的命令稿（maintainer scripts）和使用者間的互動都要透過
[17]debconf。這樣可以讓像自動更新數台電腦一類的事情簡單些。Petter Reinholdtsen
列出了他遇到的沒有使用 debconf 的問題[18]套件。

【MingW32 可以在所有的平台上執行？】 因為一些非關技術的原因，[19]MingW32
套件現在只能在 IA-32 平台上執行。不過，Steven G. Johnson [20]說他對編譯的
程序做了一些修改，並在 PowerPC 平台上成功地[21]編譯這個套件。他強調在這些
非 x86 平台上執行的程式碼是由 gcc 和 binutils 負責編譯的。除非 GCC 有 bug
，不然這個套件應該可以在所有的平台上執行。Ron Lee 稍後表示他會補上供各平台
使用的 MingW32 套件。

【GNOME 下的反鋸齒功能】 Bill Moseley [22]發現他的系統中使用了反鋸齒字型
（antialiased fonts），而他希望把這個功能關掉。另一方面，Michael Sullivan
則是[23]注意到反鋸齒功能最近有重大的更新。啟用反鋸齒後，字看起來較為平滑
，但對有些人來說，這個功能讓字較為模糊而不易閱讀，甚至會讓眼睛不太舒服。
GTK 2.2 支援字型反鋸齒的功能，而且可以用設定環境變數（environment
variable）的方式把這個功能[24]關掉。

【把套件的設定方式文件化】 Andreas Tille 提到在一些特殊的情況或硬體環
境下，一些套件必須特別設定之後才能並存於系統中。他[25]認為應該把這些資
料收集起來，整理成為某種型式的知識庫（knowledge base）。這知識庫應該是
以 Wiki、[26]DDP 文件或是資料庫的[27]形式，由社群成員共同參與寫作。

【將文件獨立包成套件】 Adam Heath 因為磁碟空間快[28]用完了而注意到他的
/usr/share/doc 中竟然有 380 MB 的文件。Adrian von Bidder [29]認為如果
套件中的文件資料要佔不少的磁碟空間，就應該把它獨立出來，另外包成一個套
件，且這個文件套件和原套件間不該有相依性。Jochen Voss 將這些想法整理成
具體的[30]建議。

【Glibc 的許可證有問題】 Johan Walles [31]說 [32]Bug#171659 中指出 glibc
中部份程式碼來自 Sun Microsystems, Inc。Brian Carlson 說它的授權方式禁止
將這部份單獨散佈，而這不符合 [33]DFSG 第一條的要求。而且因為它不允許在修
改後以修改版的形式散佈，也和 DFSG 第三條相抵觸。Jeff Bailey 正和 glibc
官方[34]合作重新撰寫這個部份的程式。

【供 Woody 使用的 KDE 3.1 及 Agypten 套件】Ralf Nolden [35]說他已經把
Woody i386 平台的 KDE 3.1 套件上傳到 [36]KTown 伺服器中。此外，他也上

【一月舉行的研討會】 Debian 這個月將[38]參與三場研討會。第一場是在

【Debian 在 CeBIT 的展示？】 Debian 被[44]邀請參與將在德國舉行的 CeBIT。
展示旳內容包含了在安裝於消費者筆記型電腦上的 Debian、攤位中的介紹工作以
