dftp v1.2

Version 1.2 of 'dftp' is now available. This is still written in csh. The
perl version (2.0) is coming... eventually. It will appear in the Debian
distribution under "contrib/tools/dftp-1.2.csh".

Since ftp.debian.org is having problems, it can be gotten from:

	ftp://ftp.bnr.ca/pub/dftp-1.2.csh

but it won't stay there for more than a few days. Be sure to rename it to
simply "dftp" and set execute permissions for it.

                          What's new in version v1.2

** The "scaninst" action has been improved to properly gather a list of
installed packages from 'dpkg' without need of the "Packages-Master" file.

** Uses the "filename" field of Packages-Master to accurately find the
description of packages. (Dftp previously had troubles when the package
name did not exactly match the file name.)

Note: Package description for all of the debian-1.0 packages will be missing
until they start getting included in the Packages-Master file.

Did you say, what is 'dftp'? (from "dftp -help")

The purpose of this program is to make it easy to keep your local installation
of Linux consistent with the Debian distribution available on many FTP sites.
It does this by maintaining its own list of all the packages you have
retrieved and comparing it against the manifest on the FTP site. Any packages
on the FTP site that differ from the installed version, as well as any
unretrieved packages are presented to you to choose from. All selected
packages are then fetched from the FTP site and made available for you to
 install.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they're not.
