The live images probably fill a number of these use cases and other
tools can be used to build suitable images. The principal objective is
that there is no need to constrain the builds to the size limits of a
CDROM.

A USB stick image something between CD and DVD would also be
appropriate.

The point is that the above does *not* mean that CD images are required
- just that images somewhat smaller than a DVD would be useful.
