Yeah, it looks like adding MATE to XFCE may only add 70 mb or so of debs. That's a good idea! For such a CD, it makes sense for debian-cd to pass desktop=xfce (or perhaps mate). Tasksel will then default to mate, and let the user choose from the other available desktop environments[1], either the limited set included on the CD, or the full set available from the mirror. It might be pretty reasonable to make such a CD be CD #1. Unless it would be too confusing to make that CD default to a different desktop than the DVDs do. -- see shy jo [1] Although tasksel does not currently make lxde or cinnamon choices visible in its task list.
