Sure, one can run TeX/LaTeX anywhere after having figured out where to
get an up to date system including appropriate binaries from and after
figuring out how to install it. Under Linux this usually worked and
still works out of the box. :-)
Last time i looked, Linux was one of the very few OS's which had
TeX/LaTeX as integrated part of the system, readily available with the
OS install disks. Try that with most other systems like the one's
from e.e. Microsoft... ;-)
I once switched to Linux because LaTeX was a built in option. Nobody,
except maybe *BSD, could/can beat that... ;-)
