debian-cd // sparc

Ben,

I am a 'Sparc' dummy, so please bare with my perhaps
silly questions.

I would like to run debian-cd (yacs) to generate sparc images.

As the debian-cd is today, and with me using a i386 based
host, debian-cd errors out on mkhybrid because I do not have
the cd.b or a second.b files that are required by the boot-sparc
routines.

I can specify the location of these files in the CONF.sh, but
it seems that they can only be generated by 'silo' running on
a sparc, therefore with boot-sparc specifing -B on the mkhybrid
commandline on a pc, will cause, mkhybrid to fail, and no CD #1
images will be generated.

I could configure debian-cd to build non-bootable images, but then
other files that are generated by boot-sparc would also not be
included on the image.

So, I guess I could go out and beg/borrow/steal a Sparc system,
to create images on, or I could perhaps figure out how to
use 'intelsilo' to generate cd.b and second.b. (I am hacking at
that idea, but again, being a sparc idiot, I have as yet not
made much progress.)

So...finally to the suggestion.

I would like to see debian-cd (specifically boot-sparc), changed
so that it would produce usable images (bootable or non) when
it is run on ANY host archecture. I do not have an good
soloution on how to do that, perhaps include cd.b and second.b
in the supplied files of debian-cd ?

I would REALLY like to have the option of using intelsilo
to build the sparc release on a pc. At the moment as it is
the only archecture that is not currently buildable on a pc.

Constructive criticism only, no hate mail here, I am just
looking for clues. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.
