debian-cd idiot test 2000 #1

Hi,
I have started to build i386 disc trees (packages and source),
burn CDs (at this stage only the first), and attempt installs from
stratch. I think that debian-cd only has cosmetic problems.

These were the only problems that I definitely know belong to debian-cd.

1. I looked at cds2src and could not work it out.

Use of uninitialized value at
/home/disc/Debian-cd/debian-cd-1/tools/cds2src line 137.

2. I know this from slink-cd, it was harmless there.

!! Package rar has `Section: non-free/utils', but file is in `utils' !!

These are definitely mirror problems. The files are not there. these are
only a selection.

1. I am using ftp.uk.debian.org for non-US.
Override file
/b5/debian/mirror/debian/indices-non-US/override.potato.contrib.gz not
found

2. The file is not there, although Package.gz says that it is.

Link from
/b5/debian/mirror/debian/dists/frozen/main/binary-i386/sound/mctools-lite_
970129-9.deb
to
/b5/debian/yacs1/potato-i386/2/dists/frozen/main/binary-i386/sound/mctools-
lite_970129-9.deb
failed: No such file or directory

This means that make mirrorcheck cannot be used.

The trial installation was a shambles. I was being forced to configure a
network when I did not want one, got around that problem and installed the
base system. However, on reboot dselect started and then fell over in a
screaming heap.

I think that this is part of the problem. Taken from the debian-cd
typescript.

Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
bsdmainutils: Depends: libncurses4 (>= 4.2-3.1) but it is not installed
  console-tools: Depends: console-data (> 1999.08.29-3) but it is not
installed
cron: Depends: lockfile-progs but it is not installed
emacs20: Depends: libncurses4 (>= 4.2-3.1) but it is not installed
ftp: Depends: libncurses4 (>= 4.2-3.1) but it is not installed
g++: Depends: libstdc++2.10-dev (>= 1:2.95.2-4) but it is not installed
gdb: Depends: libncurses4 (>= 4.2-3.1) but it is not installed
grub: Depends: libncurses4 but it is not installed
info: Depends: libncurses4 (>= 4.2-3.1) but it is not installed
ispell: Depends: libncurses4 (>= 4.2-3.1) but it is not installed
  libopenldap-runtime: Depends: debconf (>= 0.2.0)
  lynx: Depends: debconf
  nfs-kernel-server: Conflicts: nfs-server (>= 1.0)
talk: Depends: libncurses4 (>= 4.2-3.1) but it is not installed
telnet: Depends: libncurses4 (>= 4.2-3.1) but it is not installed

I have tried to find a log of the installation, but failed. Is there any
way of keeping a log of a new installation? If not could this be
incorporated into boot-disks. It would make the life of idiot testers
much easier.

Phil.
