Adam, are you sure of what you're saying ?

$ file /rack/ftp/debian/dists/slink/main/disks-i386/2.1.9-1999-03-03/root.bin
/rack/ftp/debian/dists/slink/main/disks-i386/2.1.9-1999-03-03/root.bin: gzip compressed data, deflated, last modified: Wed Mar  3 18:17:37 1999, max compression, os: Unix

The root.bin file is compressed and certainly not by the debian-cd script
since we're taking file as we find them on the FTP archive.

Usually the kernel knows about gzipped filesystem but why doesn't it work
with loadlin ?
