I am a lurker on this list. I am a long time FreeBSD user and almost as long a Debian GNU/Linux user. I have been using Ubuntu Gnome as my primary desktop system for development for some years but before the 18.04 release of Ubuntu I will have migrated almost all my servers, desktops and laptops to FreeBSD. For those applications that I need Linux, I use Alpine Linux now. I am a heavy user of Ansible and it works well with both FreeBSD and Alpine. The Debian packaging system is no longer as important as it was to me. It does not present a sufficiently compelling reason to stay with an OS that uses systemd. I don't like systemd and I don't need to justify my reasons for not liking it. I had hoped that Debian/kFreeBSD may have been a good long term alternative for me, but I don't think that there is sufficient community interest in it. I spent some time testing Devuan and wish them a lot of luck for the future. They need to recognise that a proper divorce from Debian is necessary. My opinion is that Debian packaging appears to be increasingly developing a systemd bias and any non-systemd Debian derivative has a long uphill struggle ahead. I choose to take a less stressful path, If I wanted to scream in frustration at my computers I would use Windows. I don't need or want systemd so FreeBSD has become my primary OS of choice.
