Do you already have GRUB on the serial console, e.g. with
/etc/defaults/grub2:GRUB_CONSOLE=serial ?
I thought I could use that variable within /etc/grub.d/10_kfreebsd
to automatically append "-h -D" in that case. At the same time as
I'm fixing #785196
