Whereas SO_PEERCRED is only defined+available on Linux:

There are other ways of doing this on other platforms, if MSVA
wanted to be portable. The page mentioned by Eirik suggests
my ($pid, $uid, $gid) = IO::Handle::Record::peercred($client);
