I've seen the exact same thing under plain Qemu:  newcons in VGA mode
seems very slow (but not as serious as you describe in Hyper-V).

Hopefully it will improve... otherwise we may need to disable it by
default for the jessie release.  Fortunately there was code added
already in 10-STABLE to make it very easy to do this at boot-time,
potentially from a GRUB menu entry.  Users of KMS-capable graphics cards
most likely still need this feature.

Either way, it would be nice to get some early kFreeBSD 10.1 builds into
experimental for people to try, and see if newcons is any better yet.
