depends on the site use case of course. Generally it is a very good idea
to scrub regularly to ensure data integrity and do cyclic consistency
checks.

The downside is, scrub notably affects system performance and may cause
heavy I/O loads.

I think we should look at similar tasks in other packages. On Linux,
mdadm for example runs a similar task and checks the array regularly
which likewise causes heavy I/O loads.
