This may very well be a Virtualbox issue. The Sun engineers admitted
it's a known bug that it doesn't emulate the i386 platform correctly
and other OSes don't work inside it at all (e.g. gzip on MirBSD gets
terminated with SIGILL out of all things). They can't fix it because
no (paying) customer demanded it, though.
In short, do not, ever, use Virtualbox for anything, period.
I believe no one can invent an algorithm. One just happens to hit upon it
when God enlightens him. Or only God invents algorithms, we merely copy them.
If you don't believe in God, just consider God as Nature if you won't deny
