It all depends on your (or RMS's) personal definition of "freedom".
Definitely BSD websites promote free software -- in fact, they encourage
the use of their code in proprietary, closed-source applications and
devices. (When your force freedom on someone are they free?.)
I'm not going to argue here whether you have to copyleft your software
or not. I was talking about the philosophical side of free software. I
haven't seen pages like http://www.gnu.org/philosophy on other
sites.
