Serious omission in Debian Installer Trixie RC 1: Please hold off the official release until the omission is fixed
Hi,
I downloaded Debian Installer Trixie RC 1 last week using the url: https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/trixie_di_rc1/amd64/iso-dvd/debian-trixie-DI-rc1-amd64-DVD-1.iso and "burned" it onto a USB stick.
My desktop computer booted it fine.
However, the RC 1 installer doesn't include WPA3-Personal authentication.
When Debian 12 a.k.a. Bookworm was released on June 10, 2023, it didn't include WPA3-Personal authentication. At that time, I thought the omission was OK because there weren't many WiFi 6 routers and access points. Moreover not many mobile/cellular smartphones offer WiFi 6 with WPA3-Personal authentication.
However, two years ago today, there are many WiFi 6 routers and access points in use. Even budget smartphones sold this year include WPA3-Personal authentication.
I'm sure you guys know that WPA3-Personal protocol offers many advantages over the aged WPA2 protocol.
Please find below 4 jpg files for you to go through.
Only 2 options offered WPA3-Personal is missing.jpg

No option to input the paasphrase for WPA3-Personal.jpg

Attempting to exchange keys with the access point.jpg

Failure of key exchange and association because the installer rejects WPA3-Personal.jpg

I hope that the Debian Installer Team will include WPA3-Personal this time around.
It's perfectly alright to us users if the official release of Debian Trixie is delayed till July or August 2025 because the Installer Team needs time to include WPA3-Personal authentication.
Best regards.
Catherine
P.S.: The installer of Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS released on February 20, 2025 offers WPA3-Personal authentication. Tails 6.16 (url: https://tails.net/latest/index.en.html) which is based on Debian, also offers WPA3-Personal authentication. Starting with Fedora 40 and including the current Fedora 42, its installer also offers WPA3-Personal authentication.
