Hi Holger,

thanks for your fast response.

I always do a clean new installation. I have 3 of these computers where I can't install Debian 10 now and I have another computers where it worked. In the future with Debian 12, I can't install 9 to upgrade to 10 to 11 to 12.

My old PCs are of good quality and do not consume too much energy (dual core cpus, in total 60 Watt). Most energy is going into production of electronic equipment, not during the time it is running. Therefore it is not useful to put it into the garbage bin too early. Recycling of all metals is not really possible yet due to the small quantities. Here we have a responsibility for the environment.

Debian is well known for stability, and the first sign of it is the installer program. It is a long time ago that I have had a problem with the Debian installer, I guess it was around Debian 6.

At universities we have a mixture of old and new computers, so we need the support for old hardware.

You should give at least an option/alternative for the installer program,
if it is not running by default.

Anyway thanks for your work and perhaps you can forward my mail to the people who build the installer.

Regards

Matthias
