Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Install base system: [ O]
Clock/timezone setup: [ O]
User/password setup: [ O]
Install tasks: [ ]
Install boot loader: [ ]
Overall install: [ ]

Comments/Problems:
I had problem with network card, it seems that after warm reboot it is not
initialized/found, I must do cold start.

I did time measurement, note that I used old small and slow HD:
1. boot - 3 s
2. setup language, country, keyboard - user
3. find network HW and configure network - 26 s
4. set computer name, domain, mirror, proxy - user
5. load additional components - 23 s
6. set root password, set user - user
7. find HD, install additional components - 24 s
8. select HD and partitions - user
9. formatHD, install base system, apt setup, ... - 708 s
10. popularity conquest - user
11. installation of another packages - 10 s
12. install tasks - I stopped the installation

I think that some steps can be done in parallel
a) point 3. can be started on background together with the point 2.
b) switch order in point 4. to: set mirror, set proxy then start in parallel
point 5. and then set computer name and domain
c) the point 6. can be perhaps done in parallel with 5. (so let say
immediately after point 4.) and surely with 7.
d) the part of the point 9. can be done in parallel with 6., packages can be
downloaded to RAM before the HD is prepared for writing

Before one month I measured Jessie installation on the same machine with
faster HD (also the mini.iso) and I think that another possibility to speedup
the installation is to do in parallel downloading and unpacking of packages,
the configuration perhaps must be done when these two steps are finished. The
unpacking is slowest part of the installation on my system (on Jessie it was
for install tasks: download 410 s, unpack 790 s, configure 365 s). Note that
point 9. was on faster HD and Jessie only 320 s.

Maybe that the user interaction can be more grouped by switching 10. with 11.
or even by doing user interaction 10. and 12. in parallel with 9. and 11.

Have a nice day
TonyMi
