Yes, I agree that wget is very convenient, and in fact it fits the
"What on earth! Where is wget?" definition quite well, so it is
unlikely that we want to replace it by something completely different.
[ I was actually thinking about replacing it with curl. Unfortunately,
curl puts the output on stdout by default, which means it may not be
used as a drop-in replacement for wget easily ].
