So, I think the best way to handle this longer-term would be:

 * upload hw-detect with a transitional package archdetect
   (Package-Type: udeb) Depends: archdetect-udeb
 * make sure everything copes well with that
 * at some later point (e.g. in jessie+1) introduce archdetect as a .deb

I would like to have archdetect as a .deb; the "archdetect-deb" name I
made up a while back in Ubuntu sucks and I wouldn't like to perpetuate
it; I don't think there's a fundamental problem with reusing package
names across package types, but in cases like this where it has
coordination issues we should make some effort to smooth the transition
rather than just going straight for it.
