The official Debian installer images must install Debian-packaged
kernels.  I would oppose introduction of any new kernel flavours that do
not use an initrd, and I don't want to see any new ARM flavours in
general.

So I think you will need to install a second u-boot.  Or, if the kernel
can somehow support a concatenated initramfs image then you could do
that (but I think this is a boot-loader feature which these machines
presumably don't have).
