This is a long shot but ... what happens if you try to turn it off and
wait before rebooting? I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NS140N, much older than
yours, that suffered a hard drive failure --- and maybe more hw problems
--- in September. With the replacement SSD I put it, I sometimes get
"Operating System not found" upon booting or rebooting. Ctrl-Alt-Del or
turning off and back on after a minute will fix it. I suspect there's
something flaky with the hardware, though it seems to run fine once it's
started. (Unlike you, I don't have EFI. Like you, I do have LVM but
this happens before grub anyway.)
