Well, I don't see why an arch should be different, except perhaps for
memory usage constraint, but that would rather be for zfs. Grepping
shows:
partman-base/debian/changelog: * Make ext4 the default file system for Linux
partman-base/debian/rules:DEFAULT_FS=ext4
partman-utils/debian/changelog: * Make ext4 the default file system for Linux
partman-utils/debian/rules:DEFAULT_FS=ext4
kFreeBSD is a different story of course.
