Comments/Problems:

First, thanks for all the work, making Debian what it is.

This was a netinstall done from an USB mass-storage media unto which
a debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso ISO image had be copied.

The installation could not go on due to the fact that the DHCP server from the
SpeedTouch 530 router modem was not found. No lease could be obtained from it.
I have retried many times, even providing a machine name along. So no network,
no time server found, no mirror available.

The machine on which the installation has been tried on is also running Debian
Etch and in this configuration does have a working DHCP network connexion
through this SpeedTouch 530 router modem.

I have also tried a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop running Debian Testing Lenny which
manages to get a DHCP network connexion through this same modem.

Here is the parameters on Debian Etch for the working network connexion in
/etc/network/interfaces:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth1
iface eth1 inet dhcp

$ /sbin/ifconfig
eth1 Lien encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:E6:86:B1:02

The problem might be that the debian-installer gets confused by the fact that
there are 2 network interfaces on this machine: a classical Ethernet card
and a FireWire card (that I don't use).

Here is the /var/log/syslog generated during the install:

for creating space for new operating systems, reorganising
disk usage, and copying data to new hard disks. This package
contains the Parted binary and manual page.
 .
This package contains libparted, the required shared library
used by Parted. This is a cut-down package with no normal
documentation intended to be used in debian-installer.
 .
Parted currently supports DOS, Mac, Sun, BSD, GPT, MIPS and
PC98 disklabels/partition tables, as well as a 'loop' (raw
disk) type which allows use on RAID/LVM. Filesystems which
are currently fully supported are ext2, ext3, fat (FAT16
and FAT32), ReiserFS (with libreiserfs) and linux-swap.
Parted can also detect and remove HFS (Mac OS), JFS, NTFS,
UFS (Sun and HP), XFS and ASFS/AFFS/APFS (Amiga) filesystems,
but cannot create, resize or check these filesystems yet.
 .
Note that ReiserFS support is only enabled if you install
the libreiserfs0.3-0 package. Since libreiserfs0.3-0 has been
removed from sarge, ReiserFS support is not compiled in the
 default package.
 .
The nature of this software means that any bugs could cause
massive data loss. While there are no known bugs at the moment,
they could exist, so please back up all important files before
running it, and do so at your own risk.
