Package: installation-reports Version: 2.38 Severity: normal Boot method: USB Image version: lenny rc1 Machine: Lenovo Sl500 Partitions: <df -Tl will do; the raw partition table is preferred> windows occupys the first 3 paritition and 30 gb (?!) Resized to free 100 gb and added two extended partitions for root and swap. Base System Installation Checklist: [O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it Initial boot: [O] Detect network card: [O] * no wifi Configure network: [O] Detect CD: [O] Load installer modules: [O] Detect hard drives: [O] Partition hard drives: [O] Install base system: [O] Clock/timezone setup: [O] User/password setup: [O] Install tasks: [O] * see below Install boot loader: [E] * no other os detection Overall install: [O] Comments/Problems: Needs a newer kernel, possibly an unreleased one for the Intel 5100 wifi. Note that this is not the wifi normally shipped with this laptop, but an option that was chosen. I think that one needs madwifi. This page may have a working method, I ran out of time to try: http://www.connect-utb.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46:get-intel-wireless-wifi-link-5100-working-on-ubuntu-804&catid=34:linux In tasksel, I was suprised to see it did not select the laptop task. This turns out to be due to this in the logs. Some read error from the iso on the USB key (which had successfully installed another machine), which caused laptop-detect to fail to install, w/o indicating it to the user. Dec 20 11:59:19 in-target: The following NEW packages will be installed: Dec 20 11:59:19 in-target: laptop-detect Dec 20 11:59:19 kernel: [ 2811.734191] Buffer I/O error on device loop0, logical block 42343 Dec 20 11:59:19 kernel: [ 2811.734208] Buffer I/O error on device loop0, logical block 42344 Dec 20 11:59:19 kernel: [ 2811.734216] Buffer I/O error on device loop0, logical block 42345 Dec 20 11:59:19 kernel: [ 2811.734350] Buffer I/O error on device loop0, logical block 42343 Dec 20 11:59:19 kernel: [ 2811.734358] Buffer I/O error on device loop0, logical block 42344 Dec 20 11:59:19 in-target: Failed to fetch cdrom:[Debian GNU/Linux testing _Lenny_ - Official RC i386 NETINST Binary-1 20081104-23:47]/pool/main/l/laptop-detect/laptop-detect_0.13.6_i386.deb Hash Sum mismatch After downloading the desktop task and installing most of it, it failed. Hi, Thanks for your report. Closing as it's an installation report from a debian installer version which isn't supported anymore. Feel free to test and report any issues against the current debian installer release (Squeeze RC1) which supports more hardware and also it's improved. Thanks! http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/squeeze_di_rc1/ -- Melhores cumprimentos/Best regards, Miguel Figueiredo http://www.DebianPT.org
