Comments/Problems:
When I boot kernel ("linux") and initrd.gz from GRUB without any boot parameters, I get the usual text output after booting and then a blank screen. Switching to text console with Ctrl+Alt+F<x> is not possible, I must reboot.
When I give "vga=ask" as boot parameter, I can select a video mode. 800x600 works perfectly, I also tried 1280x1024 and 640x480 and these work, too.
I saved the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log and attach it to this bug report.X.Org X Server 1.7.7 Release Date: 2010-05-04 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.32.25-dsa-ia32 i686 Debian Current Operating System: Linux (none) 2.6.32-5-486 #1 Sat Oct 30 22:14:18 UTC 2010 i686 Kernel command line: vga=ask Build Date: 12 November 2010 12:21:54AM xorg-server 2:1.7.7-9 (Julien Cristau <jcristau@debian.org>) Current version of pixman: 0.16.4 Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org to make sure that you have the latest version. Quoting Karsten Loeft (karstenloeft@yahoo.de): > When I boot kernel ("linux") and initrd.gz from GRUB without any boot parameters, I get the usual text output after booting and then a blank screen. Switching to text console with Ctrl+Alt+F<x> is not possible, I must reboot. > > When I give "vga=ask" as boot parameter, I can select a video mode. 800x600 works perfectly, I also tried 1280x1024 and 640x480 and these work, too. Thank you for your report... This is why parameters are passed to the kernel in out boot images (such as the netboot image for g-i, of the "Graphical install" menu entry on businesscard or netinst images. So, if you want to use the kernel and initrd manually from grub, then you need to pass it with parameters too. I wouldn't call this a bug per se.Attachment: signature.asc
