Package: installation-reports
Followup-For: Bug #305882

I have the same issue as reported in Bug 305882 & Bug 306167. I think both bugs
should be severity important and merged.

In short. With a USB keyboard (only option for Mac G3) kernel-2.6 install proceeds to
language section and then the keyboard is not usable (it is usable during bootloader though).
Anyone with powerpc should be able to test as this fails even before the
installation commences. Ie, just pop in the installer CD and see if
your USB keyboard still works once you get to language selection.

I suspect that the USB keyboard drivers aren't being loaded correctly, which was supposed to
be fixed between RC2 & RC3 :-( I have tried unplugging and replugging the keyboard with no
effect. I also have 128 Mb RAM, so that shouldn't be an issue.
I am happy to try anything else people would like.

With 2.4 installer kernel, it fails with access beyond end of device error as reported
in Bug 306167.

To get Debian installed on this machine. I had to go back to woody powerpc install CD, which
worked with keyboard fine. Also {k}ubuntu works correctly with this keyboard, which is where I am
raising this report from.

Mark

Description: The GNU Parted disk partitioning shared library
GNU Parted is a program that allows you to create, destroy,
resize, move and copy hard disk partitions. This is useful
for creating space for new operating systems, reorganising
disk usage, and copying data to new hard disks. This package
contains the Parted binary and manual page.
 .
This package contains libparted, the required shared library
used by Parted. This is a cut-down package with no normal
documentation intended to be used in debian-installer.
 .
Parted currently supports DOS, Mac, Sun, BSD, GPT, MIPS and
PC98 disklabels/partition tables, as well as a 'loop' (raw
disk) type which allows use on RAID/LVM. Filesystems which
are currently fully supported are ext2, ext3, fat (FAT16
and FAT32) ReiserFS (with libreiserfs) and linux-swap.
Parted can also detect and remove HFS (Mac OS), JFS, NTFS,
UFS (Sun and HP) and XFS filesystems, but cannot create,
resize or check these filesystems yet.
 .
Note that ReiserFS support is only enabled if you install
 the libreiserfs0.3-0 package.
 .
The nature of this software means that any bugs could cause
massive data loss. While there are no known bugs at the moment,
they could exist, so please back up all important files before
running it, and do so at your own risk.

We are closing this installation report for one of the following
reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
  Installer.
- indications in the installation report give the feeling that
the reported problem waslying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful

The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.

In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.

You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.
