Comments/Problems:
I reused two hard disks which had previously been installed in another
Linux-based NAS system. They were partitioned with /dev/sd[ab]1
providing /dev/md0, /dev/sd[ab]2 providing /dev/md1 and /dev/sd[ab]3
both having some swap space. I would have appreciated an option to wipe
these partition tables and start from scratch, but that didn't seem to
be available.
In any case, I was completely unable to change anything the partition
layout, always getting errors about the kernel being unable to reread
the partition table, I'll have to reboot first, etc. In my frustration,
I tried the option to delete data on a partition, which was extremely
slow but didn't help at all. The error messages were all quite
unhelpful, providing no clue what was going on, and I imagine many
people would have given up at this point.
Eventually, I dropped to a shell and realized that the installer had
automatically added the swap partitions as swap space. "swapoff -a"
didn't do anything useful, I had to execute "swapoff /dev/sda3; swapoff
/dev/sdb3". After this, the partitioner worked as expected (though
again, an option to simply wipe the partition tables and start from
scratch would have been nice).
