... and it worked. (It couldn't have been the CD drive, as util-linux was downloaded from the repository rather than from the CD.) The only two things I did differently were completing the install via ssh (which shouldn't have made any difference), and choosing to load the "lowmem" installer component and free the memory at the appropriate point in the install. This probably did make the difference. Contents of /var/log/installer attached for interest. I'll know for next time that 128M now counts as "low" memory for a non-graphical install. Leaving bug open in case a dev decides that it might not be a memory issue after all, or that 128M should not count as low. Cheers, CC
