Bug#503256: Installation Report - Xserver failed to detect correct monitor settings for Apple iBook G3

Thank you both for your replies.

I have now upgraded the system to Lenny and after some minor troubleshooting have got the system to work very well.

Many thanks,
William

Comments/Problems:
Installation was fine other than setting up Xorg. When I first booted
into the system the login window didn't display correctly. The leftmost
15% of the screen was fine but the rest was black, with a horizontal
bar appearing across the middle of the screen.

I solved this by running dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and accepting
all of the default answers (as I didn't understand most of the
questions). I then restarted X and the display was fine.

That sounds a bit strange as the installer does basically the same:
configure with mostly default options.

As this is an Etch install and Debian is close to releasing Lenny, I doubt
there will be much interest from the X.Org maintainers to look into this
issue, especially as there is little chance it could be fixed for Etch.
Also, there have been major changes in the way X.Org is configured for
Lenny, so the chance is good that the problem no longer exists.

As you managed to solve the configuration problem yourself fairly easily,
I think the best thing to do is to close your report. But thank you for
submitting it.

Cheers,
FJP
