Well, if you are installing from CD, the network card will not be detected 
until _after_ the CD has been detected and additional installer 
components have been loaded from the CD.

As you do not specify that that part happened correctly, I cannot tell if 
the network card detection really is an issue or not. AFAICT the driver 
for it should be available.

Please provide more details about what installation steps were executed 
and their result.
