Bug#477977: Please split netcfg into basic configuration and optional stuff

Package: netcfg
Severity: wishlist

< fjp> tbm: Could you file a wishlist BR against netcfg with details
of that split you've suggested. Especially what type of
        configuration you propose (static, dhcp).
 < fjp> I.e. specify the requirements a bit.

The configuration options shouldn't change at all; static and dhcp is
still fine.

Basically, I'd like to see a split between stuff that is absolutely
needed in order to SSH into the machine (i.e. IP, netmask, etc) and
stuff that is optional (DNS, hostname, domain).

The only problem I see is that when you used static configuration
you'd only provide the required info at the beginning (i.e. in the 1st
stage of netcfg) and later (2nd stage) added more info. Whereas in
the case of dhcp the 1st stage would (probably) obtain all information
at once, but it could simply use the required info to bring up the
network and then preseed the other values so it can be used in the 2nd
stage of netcfg. (So you don't have to do another dhcp query.)

This split would allow:
 - preseeding the required net info
 - netcfg 1st stage brings up the network
 - people ssh into d-i
 - netcg 2nd stage can be used to interactively configure optional
   values (hostname, domain, DNS).
