Comments/Problems: Network interface does not work.
My card is PCMCIA Xircom Re-100, driven by the
xirc2ps_cs module.

"Configure network" accepted static IP
(192.168.1.202), but at "configure the package
manager" I get "Bad Archive Mirror" for all mirrors.
To further diagnose, I choose "execute a shell" and
try to ping the gateway:

# /target/bin/ping 192.168.1.201
PING 192.168.1.201 (192.168.1.201) 56(84) bytes of
data.
>From 192.168.1.202 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host
Unreachable
[SNIP]
--- 192.168.1.201 ping statistics ---
9 packets transmitted, 0 received, +6 errors, 100%
packet loss, time 7948bn, pipe 3

To further investigate, I ran tcpdump on the gateway
machine (192.168.1.201) while pinging from the problem
machine (192.168.1.202):

# tcpdump -i eth0
22:40:29.993733 arp who-has 192.168.1.201 tell
192.168.1.202
22:40:29.993799 arp reply 192.168.1.201 is-at
00:04:75:80:96:6a
22:40:30.993910 arp who-has 192.168.1.201 tell
192.168.1.202
22:40:30.993965 arp reply 192.168.1.201 is-at
00:04:75:80:96:6a
22:40:31.993977 arp who-has 192.168.1.201 tell
192.168.1.202
22:40:31.994033 arp reply 192.168.1.201 is-at
00:04:75:80:96:6a
[etc.]

To me this looks like the problem machine
(192.168.1.202) can transmit arp-who-has packets to
the gateway machine, but cannot receive arp-reply
packets.

With the Sarge Netinst CD I can follow the exact same
steps, except it works, and is able to ping, install,
etc. Perhaps the difference in kernel versions is to
blame? My Sarge Netinst CD which works runs kernel
2.6.8; my Etch Netinst CD which doesn't work runs
kernel 2.6.18.
