I just proved this is definitely a gtk/dfb bug: try resizing the 
installer window (ctrl + meta + move mouse) when the text gets corrupted 
and the spurious text goes away.
The title is displayed using a gtklabel, a widget which draws onto its 
parent's gdkwindow.
This is definitely a libgtk-directfb-2.0-0 upstream bug.
