I'm sorry, but this does not really make sense. If you choose all default 
answers during an "expert" installation, the installation will be 
*completely identical* to a standard installation.
So, I strongly suspect that somewhere you are doing something different 
during your expert installations that is causing the issue.

That does not mean that what you're seeing is not a valid issue. However, 
for us to try to identify the issue, you'll have to provide a lot more 
information. 

Assuming you can still switch to VT2 at the point of the hang, let's start 
with the syslog of the installation (gzipped please!) and the output 
of 'ps alx'.
