Well, I tried configuring an existing gnome system to use sudo as user-setup would: update-alternatives --set libgksu-gconf-defaults /usr/share/libgksu/debian/gconf-defaults.libgksu-sudo update-gconf-defaults root@dodo:/var/run/sudo>grep guest /etc/sudoers guest ALL=(ALL) ALL guest was able to start a root terminal from gnome, by giving their password, as would be expected when using sudo. -- see shy jo
