Comments/Problems:

Held down option key at startup to select the Debian install DVD as the boot volume.  Got to the black-and-white greet screen and typed "install".  Went to a white screen telling me to type "mac-boot" to continue or "shut-down" to shutdown, and "Release key to continue".  Couldn't type anything at this point, even after switching from third-party (MacAlly) USB keyboard to default Apple USB keyboard.  Had to shutdown with power switch.
