Overall install: [O]

Comments/Problems: I had to try several iso images
before I could get the install process to work.
I noticed that if I switched virtual terminals using
the gtk installer, the GUI and vt1 would crash.
I could still use vt2 or vt3, but I couldn't continue
the installation and had to reboot.
etch named my SATA Hard Drive /dev/sda where as sarge
named it /dev/hde

<the installation was as simple as pi. It took 25
minutes to load the standard and deesktop packages.
It took me 2 tries to setup the partition.I didn't
erase the data on the partition I wanted to use,
The second time I deleted the partition and started
from scratch using the installer to rebuild the
partition
which worked fine.

Why? What was different between the images?

This is a known issue. Switch VTs while the installer is busy will
sometimes result in a crash, but you can safely switch if it is waiting
for input.

That's due to changes in the kernel drivers and is documented in the
Release Notes for Etch.

As the installation was successful, I am closing your report. Thank you
for submitting it.
You can still reply to the first question if you like.

Cheers,
