Well it did :-)

I got myself the netinstall CD image and installed debian etch 
without any real problems; no proxy, no change to the router, the 
same pcmcia-NIC, even the same IP-address provided by DHCP.

I had to remove (comment out) the CD-ROM entries from the 
sources.list by hand. I know, this is beta software but for the final 
release it would be nice if the installer asked, whether to leave 
them in the sources.list or not.

Please tell me if you want any additional information on my system.
