Very nice colors and the progressbar and the debian-banner also look very nice! The partitioning felt a bit more buggy than in d-i (?)! Nothing which could not be resolved with going back and forth, but I didn't have these issues with d-i. One thing I had more than once, is that the main partition was not selected for being used. It was marked as free space and there was no partition selected at all. Also the partitioner happened to crash and then reload. I could continue then, but it also happened quite frequently. But d-i mostly keeps the selections, nice at least :-/ I think this could be related to 96 mb only (89 being used, 5 free, at a random look after a crash) - I will test again (in a week or so) with more memory an re-report about this. I think the installation manual should state that it's recommended to have 128 MB RAM or more on powerpc to use g-i. (clone, retitle recommended to have 128 MB RAM or more on powerpc to use g-i) I know the task-menu is a difficult topic but I just wondered if a task "ssh server" wouldn't be really useful. I never install (and would install) the mail, web & print-server tasks (as I prefer to do that with more control/finetuning anyway) but I would very very often select the "ssh-server" task... I also ran report-hw and can give you the full results if interested. Overall, despite the problems I am very impressed by g-i! Cheers to $you_know_ who_you_are :-) regards, HolgerAttachment: pgpMcl4hn0g8B.pgp

Even if you dont have debian installed on your harddrive you might be able to run debian on it (and help the g-i people by providing infos): live-package (new in etch) builds a debian-live-cd consisting of unmodified debian packages only and has support for powerpc as well. Only I have never build a powerpc-live-cd with it (yet). On sid/i386 the process is as simple as: sudo apt-get install live-package sudo make-live # burn ./debian-live/binary.iso to cd and boot "sudo make-live -p x11" creates a live-cd with x11, see "man make-live" for more info. Panthera (bcc:ed) , do you know if live-package has been successfully used on newworld powerpc and esp. powerpc64? (I'm currently offline so I can't research or even try this myself...) regards, Holger (closing this bug as the memory requierements are dealt with in another bugreport) P.S.: btw: A: because it's breaks the logical order of communication Q: why is top-posting bad?Attachment: pgpubWdovrVP6.pgp
