Comments/Problems:

Overall thet installation went pretty well. I do have a few comments
and suggestion though:

During the network setup, the firewire interface is also presented as a
network device, even though it's not connected to anything. It also
uses a very generic name (something like "Ethernet 10/100", I don't
remember exactly), which confused me a bit, and will probably confuse
non-experiences users a lot more even.

This was an install on an existing system which alread has a sw-raid1
and lvm setup. The raid array was recognised perfectly.
The two volume groups for LVM were also detected correctly, and inside
the LVM configurator, all existing LVs were displayed. After the LVM
configuration, however, only the newly created LVs showed up in the
partition overview, and the existing LVs didn't. Therefore, it was not
possible to select my existing /home partition for mounting on /home,
nor to use my existing swap.

Also, I don't really like the overview of the VGs in the partition
overview after LVM is activated. Rather than displaying only
"partition" #1 in each LV with the description of the VG in a
subheading, I'd rather see a subheading describing each VG, with below
that all LVs that are defined in the VG; something like:

LVM VG vg_name - 320GB Linux device mapper volume group
	   lv_name_1 2.0GB f ext3 /usr
	   lv_name_2 3.0GB f ext3 /var
	   lv_name_3 4.0GB f ext3 /home

	instead of

LVM VG vg_name, LV lv_name_1 - 2.0GB Linux device mapper
	  #1 2.0GB f ext3 /usr
LVM VG vg_name, LV lv_name_2 - 3.0GB Linux device mapper
	  #1 3.0GB f ext3 /var
LVM VG vg_name, LV lv_name_3 - 4.0GB Linux device mapper
	  #1 4.0GB f ext3 /home

I think that would make the entire view much clearer and less cluttered.

Furthermore, I'd like some possibility to mount tmpfs filesystems (on
/tmp for example) from the partitioner.

During the downloading of the packages, it might be nice to show the
download speed or the progress per file, especially when downloading a
large file (like openoffice). The display of the status bar and the
time remaining also suggests that they are coupled, which doesn't seem
to be the case: the downloading amounts only to 20% or so of the total
progress bar.

The grub installation didn't detect my old grub menu.list. It'ld be
nice if it could just use the old one and add a new entry.

The installation of grub on a partition is not very userfriendly and the
text on the screen is not very to the point. It would be much nicer if
here the installer would show a list of available partition and allow
one to choose from those, rather than manually entering partitions in
obscure grub notation. The help text on the screen
talks about IDE and SCSI disks, while there are only SATA drives in my
system; I guess the text is generic and not tailored for this specific
system, but then it is unclear what in a system with mixed IDE/SATA/SCSI
controllers would be the "first" harddisk etc.

After the reboot, gdm presented me with an error because X couldn't be
started, and after that I was sent back to a login prompt on tty1. I
expected the installer to continu, or to at least tell
me that the installation was done and how to continue now. Is this
intended, or did something go wrong in this case?

The not starting of X turned out to be a bug in the ati driver [1]. I
think this should be fixed before the release. Should be easy to do,
because Xorg should simply use the radeon driver directly for recent ATI
cards instead of relying on the ati driver to detect the card correctly.

The default desktop looks a bit starkers. A nice image on the desktop,
and maybe a "welcome to Debian" dialog would probably help a lot.
