Comments/Problems:
Ok, this little machine was a tough test for D-I. Let's see, it has
only one pcmcia socket and I made the network installation with two
pcmcia cards: one pcmcia cdrom reader (model Sony PCGA-CD51) and an
orinoco pcmcia card, so I began the installation without knowing what
to expect. Here's the description of the process:
- D-I started in "low memory mode", due to the system's 64MB of RAM.
- It didn't detect the pcmcia cdrom, while it was working and detected
as "hde" by the kernel. So I chosed "none" in the cdrom module list
and then "/dev/hde" and evrything went fine.
- No network, off course. However, D-I detected the firewire port and
tried to configure it, so I can say the kernel recognized the firewire
port just fine.
- In order to have network access, I had to switch to tty2, and umount
the cdrom, take off the cd-rom, put on the nic and configure the nic
manually. This process back and forth as needed (when I needed network
connection or when D-I complained about the cd-rom).
- After debootstrap, everything went fine.
All in all, a nice installation. I thought I was going to have some
problems, because of the lack of pcmcia sockets, but everything went
fine. Thanks to the D-I team.
Cheers,
Dario.-
