It also works for g-i, but _only_ for VT2, not for VT5!
The first selection works on VT5, subsequent selections in kbd-chooser do nothing.

I do confirm that swtching keyboard layout works properly with d-i (i.e. non g-i)
since I'm sure I tried it before filing the BR.

If you look at the kbd-chooser package, you'll notice that "kbd-mode" is always invoked in unicode mode also if g-i
uses the keyboard in MEDIUMRAW mode;

see S55kbd-chooser and post-base-installer

Unfortunately focing kbd-mode to use the "-k" flags does not fix the problem.

From what I can see reloading the keymap brings to a messed up situation where
you have a mix of the first keymap chosen and of the subsequent load.

I experienced mixed keycodes once too in d-i, esepcially when playing with kbd_mode (neither setting keyboard mode to ASCII fixes this in d-i)
