The kernel should be loading the forcedeth driver for it.
Could you boot the installer again and, when DHCP fails, switch to VT2:
- check if the driver is loaded ('lsmod')
- check with 'dmesg' if the NIC was correctly initialized (no error
  messages where it is recognized)
- check if the interface is up with 'ifconfig'
- see if you can get a lease by running 'dhclient' manually
