I have 2 days to install debian etch on our production server.
I download the last daily build of the cdrom (release
debian-testing-ia64-netinstall.iso 20060815).
But missing the driver megaraid legacy and qla2300 on the cdrom

could you help me by building a new daily build iso with these 2
modules or minimum with the megaraid_legacy ?

I'd first check if the modules you need are already included in the
regular kernel image package (linux-image-2.6.16-2-itanium-smp). If they
are, just copy them over to the installer somehow and run 'depmod -a;
update-dev'.

Hmm. Does not look like megaraid_legacy is though:

Maybe this is the lib/modules/2.6.16-2-itanium-smp/kernel/drivers/scsi/megaraid.ko
lib/modules/2.6.16-2-itanium-smp/kernel/drivers/scsi/megaraid.ko
lib/modules/2.6.16-2-itanium-smp/kernel/drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_mbox.ko
lib/modules/2.6.16-2-itanium-smp/kernel/drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_mm.ko
lib/modules/2.6.16-2-itanium-smp/kernel/drivers/scsi/megaraid/megaraid_sas.ko

For ql* I can only find:
lib/modules/2.6.16-2-itanium-smp/kernel/drivers/scsi/qla1280.ko
lib/modules/2.6.16-2-itanium-smp/kernel/drivers/scsi/qla2xxx/qla2xxx.ko
lib/modules/2.6.16-2-itanium-smp/kernel/drivers/scsi/qlogicfas408.ko
lib/modules/2.6.16-2-itanium-smp/kernel/drivers/scsi/qlogicfc.ko

If I can boot and install the debian on the megaraid disks I can build my own kernel with the qla23xx.

This info obtained from:
http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?searchmode=filelist&word=linux-image-2.6.16-2-itanium-smp&version=unstable&arch=ia64&page=1&number=all

But I have a mckinley (itanium2) and not itanium.

In that case you will have to build your own kernel and create a custom
installer. This page should help you get started:
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/Modify
http://d-i.alioth.debian.org/svn/debian-installer/installer/doc/custom-kernel.txt

(Or, probably simpler, only build the custom kernel and just copy the
missing modules over to the installer as explained above.)

Please file a bug against linux-2.6 to request these modules to be added
in the default Debian kernel image packages for IA64.

Cheers,
FJP

Thanks Frans, for your fast respons
