Comments/Problems:

I used the default boot method : just pressed ENTER without any boot parameter.
Then I chose english when prompted for a language. Then I chose France when
prompted for a country. Then I chose French when prompted for the keyboard
layout. Then the installation process went on whithout prompting until I got
this error message :

"[!] Detect network hardware
No Ethernet card was detected, but a FireWire interface is present. It's
possible, though unlikely, that with the right FireWire hardware connected to
it, this could be your primary Ethernet interface.
Do you intend to use FireWire Ethernet?
<Yes> <No>"

Meaning the Debian installer was unable to detect any of the 2 network interface
cards inside my computer : 1 Gigabit Marvell 88E1111 LAN controller embeded on
the motherboard and 1 10/100 Megabit netgear FA311 LAN controller on a PCI slot.

I answered no to the question since I have no FireWire Ethernet. Then I was
presented with a list of ethernet cards drivers : I found nothing self
explanatory enough in this list to help me make a choice, if ever an item in the
list was relevant. From an lsmod in Ubuntu I found that forcedeth was probably
the module I needed; but each attempt to load it from the Debian Installer failed.

The Debian Installer developpers should ask Unbuntu ones how to proceed to
recognize these NICs since I was able to get the above lspci and lspci -n
results from an Ubuntu installation.

What really disappointed me about the current Debian installer is that even my
"old" Knoppix 3.9 was able to correctly detect and install those NICs.

Since both Knopix and Ubuntu are based on Debian, the information needed to
correct the Debian installer is available from these distros.

Thanks in advance for your help and, maybe, a quick fix.
