Re: <Go Back> does not help. Installation fails trying to download release file from CD

Dear Frans,
I followed your suggestions and saved the /var/log/syslog file. Please find attached the syslog.gz file.
Thank you very much for the prompt help,
Best, Franz

During an offline install (no ethernet and no dialup connection) from

I skipped the step for the mirror selection by using the <Go Back>
button to exit from the mirror selection menue and skipped this step.
The next step, the disk partitioning worked O.K. However the base
system installation then failed. The installer tries to downlowd the
relese file and fails. It does not use the release file from the DVD.

We've had several previous reports of this, but no one has yet taken the trouble to help us find out where the real problem is.

Can you please do the following.
- do a new install
- proceed to partitioning
- while you are there:
 - switch to VT2 (using alt-F2)
 - use nano to edit the file /var/lib/dpkg/info/base-installer.postinst
and add a line 'set -x' below the first line
 - switch back to VT2 (using alt-F1)
- continue the installation until the error happens
- send us the /var/log/syslog file (gzipped!)

You can probably use the "Save debug logs" option from the main menu to save the syslog file.

Cheers,
FJP
