Hi,

today, I tried to install beta4 via full CD 1 :
$ cat .disk/info
Debian GNU/Linux testing "Sarge" - Official Snapshot i386 Binary-1 (20040501)

I have a bi-celeron, and kernel which was installed is 2.4.25-1-386.

This is because on cd1, there are only these kernels :

$ find . -iname "*kernel-image*"
./kernel-image-2.4.25-i386
./kernel-image-2.4.25-i386/kernel-image-2.4.25-1-386_2.4.25-3_i386.deb
./kernel-image-2.4.25-i386/kernel-image-2.4.25-1-586tsc_2.4.25-3_i386.deb
./kernel-image-2.4.25-i386/kernel-image-2.4.25-1-686_2.4.25-3_i386.deb
./kernel-image-2.4.25-i386/kernel-image-2.4.25-1-686-smp_2.4.25-3_i386.deb
./kernel-image-2.4.25-i386/kernel-image-2.4.25-1-k6_2.4.25-3_i386.deb
./kernel-image-2.4.25-i386/kernel-image-2.4.25-1-k7_2.4.25-3_i386.deb
./kernel-image-2.4.25-i386/kernel-image-2.4.25-1-k7-smp_2.4.25-3_i386.deb
./kernel-image-2.4.26-i386
./kernel-image-2.4.26-i386/kernel-image-2.4.26-1-386_2.4.26-1_i386.deb
./kernel-image-2.4.26-i386/kernel-image-2.4.26-1-586tsc_2.4.26-1_i386.deb
./kernel-image-2.4.26-i386/kernel-image-2.4.26-1-686_2.4.26-1_i386.deb
./kernel-image-2.4.26-i386/kernel-image-2.4.26-1-686-smp_2.4.26-1_i386.deb
./kernel-image-2.4.26-i386/kernel-image-2.4.26-1-k6_2.4.26-1_i386.deb
./kernel-image-2.4.26-i386/kernel-image-2.4.26-1-k7_2.4.26-1_i386.deb
./kernel-image-2.4.26-i386/kernel-image-2.4.26-1-k7-smp_2.4.26-1_i386.deb
./kernel-image-2.6.3-i386
./kernel-image-2.6.3-i386/kernel-image-2.6.3-1-386_2.6.3-2_i386.deb

So, current code tries to install kernel-image-2.4-686, but there is no
such kernel.

PS : it doesn't detect smp system, because dmesg was filled by hdb
errors. Maybe it should grep in /var/log/syslog instead of using dmesg.

Thanks !

AFAIK this issue is no longer present. Neither in the official Sarge
Installer, not in the later release for Etch. Therefore closing.

Cheers,
