Comments/Problems:
The installation went perfectly until after the reboot. At the moment
when grub should have appeared, the screen instead went blank. After
the 5-second timeout the hard drive light came on, indicating that the
system was booting but without video display. I now have a "working"
Ubuntu system which is fine once X begins but I still can't see
anything during the console mode portion of boot-up. When I boot from
any Debian install disc using `linux vga=ask` and type `scan`, the
screen appears black for the duration of the scan, then comes back at
the end of the scan.
This appears to be a comparable problem to one discussed in Red Hat:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=121819
I've also had a couple threads on debian-user about this:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2006/03/msg02594.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2006/03/msg02619.html
I'm quite willing to help by trying things or providing more info,
just let me know. I have a couple suggestions from someone on
Debian-user which I haven't tried yet, namely passing acpi=on or
debian-installer/framebuffer=false at the installer boot prompt.
